Jane was born in Richmond, Surrey and attended Putney High School and St. Mary’s School Calne before studying Geography and Archaeology & Anthropology at Newnham College, Cambridge.

She trained as a Careers Officer and worked in this capacity for County Durham LEA from 1972-89. She then became the County’s Education Business Partnership Manager. In 1995 she was elected as the first Secretary of the National Education Business Partnership Network, a post she held for 3 years. She project managed the North East Business Ambassadors Scheme until 2006.

Jane was awarded an MBE in January 2002 for her services to Education Business Partnership.

In 2005 she set up the Elm House Trust and the Vocational Learning Trust charities, and still chairs both companies. She was awarded the Northumbrian Association Hotspur Award for bold endeavour in 2009 and was the national runner up in the Constructing Excellence Awards for Client of the Year in 2010.

Jane is Chairman of the Burton-cum-Walden Parish Council, and Hon. Secretary of the Middleham Moor Gaitowners Association and the Upper Dales Health Watch. Jane serves on a number of local committees, enjoys dog walks and records local history.
